How to tint your headlights

The easiest and least expensive mods you can perform on your automobile is to tint your lights.  This involves tinting your headlights, tails, and side marker lights.  I have even tinted the rear reflectors on a Chevy HHR.  The results are awe-inspiring, and sure help the automobile to stand out in a crowd.

First off, many states and provinces don’t allow you to tint your lights.  This is for your safety, and the safety of others.  It is strictly up to you if you would like your lights to be tinted, and it is solely up to you to take complete responsibilty  for tinting the lights on your auto.  Now with that said, I will show a few of the steps that you can do to tint your lights.

For your tail lights, and side marker lights, the same process is used for them.  Depending on how complicated the design of the lights are, you will want to transfer the lights from your auto,  though this isn’t exclusively neccessary.  I have used VHT Night Shades as the tint, and have tinted these while they were on the automobile.  You will want to use an alcohol based, or other type of remover to clean the lenses.  This removes wax, and any foreign debris that may be on the lens.  Your lights need to be clean for the VHT nightshades to stick to. 

If tinting the lenses while on the vehicle, you will want to mask off an area around your lights.  This is so that you don’t get overspray from the tinting procedure on your automobiles paint.  Once masked off and the lights have been cleaned, You can start the process.  Very lightly spray the VHT Night Shades across the lens in a smooth gesture, making sure that it is a light coat.  Give the lenses nearly 20 minutes of drying time between coats.  On side marker lenses and tail lenses, I would feel safe with two to three light coats.  Any more than this and you may make the lens too dark for light to shine through.  Take time and take care in preparing and spraying, and you will end up with great results.

Let the Night Shades cure overnight.  The next day, you can either clear coat them with 3 very light coats of spray clear coat, or wet sand the lights to remove any orange peel, and then clear coat them with 3 very light coats of clear coat.  The clear coat will help to seal the night shades and also prevent the night shades from cracking or fading.  Once completed, carefully remove the masking from around your lenses, and you’ll now have some awesome tinted tail and marker lights.

Headlights use the exact same procedure, however the only change I would make would be to use 1-2 light coats of VHT only.  You don’t want to apply more than two coats as it will be far too dark on your headlights, and you’ll be asking for a ticket.  Not only that, but it will be unsafe for you to drive with headlights that are too dark at night. 

Follow these procedures, and your vehicle will look like no other, thanks to VHT Night Shades and a couple hours of your time!
